Soapstone is a natural stone that is quarried and each block is cut into slabs. Soapstone is comprised of primarily talc—a soft and lubricating mineral. Other minerals can be present; the soapstone used for countertops contains harder minerals with the talc. Applying mineral oil to soapstone enhances the beauty of soapstone. Soapstone will scratch and dent. This can be removed with fine grit sandpaper.
